INTRODUCTION
Alisha: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Arabic learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Alisha: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question ""Do you like Egyptian food?"" In Arabic this is
Carole: هل تحب الأكل المصري؟
Alisha: The first word in the question is
Carole: هل
Alisha: ""meaning do"" in English.
Carole: (Slow, by syllable) هل
Alisha: Listen again and repeat.
Carole: هل

Alisha: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Carole: تحب
Alisha: meaning you love.
Carole: (Slow, by syllable) تحب
Alisha: Now repeat.
Carole: تحب

★ Note that this is how you ask “Do you like Egyptian food?” if you are asking a male person. If you are asking a female person, you would say:

Alisha: Please repeat.
Carole: هل تحبين الأكل المصري؟

Alisha: Master the following pattern and responses to the question Do you like Egyptian food??
Carole: نعم, خاصة الملوخية
Alisha: ""Yes, I especially love Molokhiyya.. Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.
Carole: (Slow) نعم, خاصة الملوخية

Alisha: To say "no", in a simple way, just say:
Carole: عفواَ, لا أحبه
Alisha: Which is like saying excuse me, but i don't like it in English. Let's hear it slowly.
Carole: (Slowly) عفواَ, لا أحبه
Alisha: And one more time at normal speed:
Carole: عفواَ, لا أحبه
Alisha: Now, let's break down our original response from the beginning. The first word:
Carole: نعم
Alisha: meaning yes.
Carole: (Slow, by syllable) نعم
Alisha: Now repeat
Carole: نعم

Carole: خاصة
Alisha: meaning especially.
Carole: (Slow, by syllable) خاصة
Alisha: Now repeat.

Alisha: To expand on the pattern, replace Molokhiyya with Koshary
Carole: الكشري
Alisha: koshary (an Egyptian dish of rice, lentils, chickpeas and macaroni)
Carole: (slow) الكشري (regular) الكشري
Alisha: Listen to the phrase again, this time with koshary
Carole: نعم, خاصة الكشري
Alisha: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace Molokhiyya . Say Yes, I especially love koshary

Alisha: To expand on the pattern, replace koshary with Mandy .
Carole: المندي
Alisha: Mandy (lamb or chicken meat, basmati rice, and a mixture of spices)
Carole: (slow) المندي(regular) المندي
Alisha: Listen to the phrase again, this time with Mandy
Carole: نعم, خاصة المندي
Alisha: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace for Koshary . Say Yes, I especially love Mandy .

Alisha: To expand on the pattern, replace Mandy with Kabsah .
Carole: الكبسة
Alisha: Kabsah (chicken or meat served on a bed of rice)
Carole: (slow) الكبسة (regular) الكبسة
Alisha: Listen to the phrase again, this time with Kabsah
Carole: نعم, خاصة الكبسة
Alisha: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace for Mandy . Say Yes, I especially love Kabsah.

Alisha: Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Egypt and someone asks you if you like Egyptian food. You want to answer that you like Molokhiyya. Respond to the question.

Alisha: Now you want to say that you like Koshary. Respond to the question.

Alisha: You want to say that you like Mandy . Answer the speaker's question.

Alisha: You want to say that you like Kabsah. Respond to the question.

Alisha: Now you want to ask someone if they like Egyptian food. Ask the masculine version of the question.
