VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Roland: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson.
Hala: The first word/phrase we’ll look at is....
Hala: أي خدمة؟ (ayyi ḫidmah?"
literally, this means "any service", in terms of use, its "what can i do for you", or "how can i help you"
Roland: That’s right!. its used to address men and woman, as it has no indicators for masculine or feminine , it can be heard anywhere, just as you enter, or after you make a request or two
Hala: also, its used as an ending, after you finish saying what you want, or paying the bill, the response will be "ayyi ḫidmah?" , that's like "my pleasure" or "you`re welcome" .
Roland: and our second phrase is…
Hala: بَس لِسّا مِشْ عارْفِين. bas lissā miš ʿārfiīn
lissā in this sentence means "still" , if we use it alone, it will mean "not yet", that's a very important and easy word to use .
Roland: Right!. let’s move to the grammar point.

Lesson focus

Roland: The focus of this lesson is to have and in this case they have
عـَـنـْـدُهـُم أكـْـل كـُـوَيـِّس و مـِش غالي "they have good food and it's not expensive"
Hala: To form V,to have, making "they have", we will add هُم,hum" sound at the end of
عَند,ʿand", so we will have "indahum,” to say they don't have, we will do the same as before , add مِش,miš", or break it which will give us "مَعَندُهُمش,maʿanduhumš", and this more common and popular, but feel free to use both!
Roland: and we have a new participle -عارْفين
Hala: yes, Another new and very important participle, just to refresh your memory, its the special form of the verb, treated as an adjective, but functioning as a verb, we learned one wich was "want", so we will apply the same rule here.
عارِف is for masculine I know
عارْفة is for feminine
عارْفين is the plural form
Roland, do you remember how to say i want ?
Roland: أنا عايز.
Hala: And for the female?
Roland: عايزة.
Hala: And if its a group of people?
Roland: عايزين.
This is not like verbs, we don't need to conjugate it, its the same adjective rule .
