Alisha: Expressions Containing Prepositions

Alisha: This is Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 19. In this lesson you'll learn expressions containing prepositions.
Alisha: Some idioms are long and can include one or more prepositions. They may take longer to learn, but they sure make you sound like a native Arabic speaker!
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Sherif: حرام عليك (ḥarām ʿalīk)
Sherif: خده على قد عقله (ḫodoh ʿalā ʾad ʿaʾloh)
Sherif: أشهر من النار على العلم (ʾašhar men el-nār ʿalā el-ʿalam)
Sherif: على كف عفريت (ʿalā kaf ʿafrīt)
Alisha: Sherif, what's our first expression?
Sherif: حرام عليك (ḥarām ʿalīk)
Alisha: literally meaning "Haram — which means prohibited by God — on you." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "have mercy."
Sherif: [SLOW] حرام عليك [NORMAL] حرام عليك

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to make someone feel guilty for doing something hurtful.
