Hi Chaima again, welcome to Arabic weekly words and let’s find out together this week’s topic. It’s going through customs [(3obour al jamarik)عبور الجمارك ] let’s get started.
The first word is
1.
[جنسية]
[jinsiyya] Nationality.
We say the same word in [jinsiyya]
ف المطار كاتلاقى مع ناس من جنسيات مختلفة
f lmaTâr katlâqâ m‘a nâss man jinsyyât mukhtalifa.
At the airport, you meet people from like different nationalities like from all over the world.
Next word is
2.
[جواز سفر]
[ppâspôr] passport.
In Darija, we say [ppâspôr]
هي بغات تسافر، ما عندهاش پاسپور، م ا
عندهاش ڤيز و ما عندهاش لفلوس ... م ا
يمكنش تسافر
[hiya bghât tsâfr, ma‘andhâsh pâsspôr, ma‘andhâsh lvîzâ w ma‘andhâsh lflûs ..... mâ yamknsh tsâfr.]
She wants to travel and she doesn’t have a passport, she doesn’t have a visa and she doesn’t have even money. So I guess she can’t travel.
Next word is
3.
[استمارة تصريح]
[’istimâra dyâl taSrîH] Declaration form.
هو شرا بزاف ت الهدايا من تركيا و با ش
يدخلهم للمغرب خاصو يعمر الاستمارة ديا ل
تصريح البضائع
[huwa shrâ bzzâf t lhadâyâ man torkyâ, w bâsh ydakhkhalhum llmaghrib khâSSû y‘ammar l’istimâra dyâl taSriH lbaDâ’i‘.]
So he bought so many gifts from Turkey to bring them into Morocco. He needs to fill in the declaration form.
I hate this word.
4.
ڤيزا
[vîzâ]
It means visa. That’s why most people don’t travel. So visa and in Moroccan [vîzâ] in Darija, we say visa. It’s the french one (0:01:32) visa.
لمغاربة باش يمشيو ل مركان خاصاهم ڤيزا
lmghârba bâsh yamshîw lmirikân khâSSâhum vîzâ
So for Moroccans to go to the United States, they need a visa.
5.
يدكلار ي
[ydiklarî]
That’s the next word, it’s to declare and we would say [دكلار(deklare)] or [دكلار(deklara)].
We just use a French word with the Arabic conjugation and we say
هو جايب معاه بزاف ديال البضائع ،خاص و
ضروري يدكلاريهم قبل ما يدخل
huwa jâyb m‘âh bzzâf dyâl lbaDâ’i‘, khâSSû Darûrî ydiklârîhum qbal mâ ydkhal.
He is bringing a lot of things with him and he has to – it’s necessary that he declares them before so he can come in.
Yeah that was it for going through the customs. Thank you for joining us, I am Chaima and I will see you next week.
