Peryhan: Hi everyone, my name is Peryhan and this is Egyptian Arabic weekly words. Well, today’s topic is In Your Wallet. So let’s get started.
بِطاقَةُ اِئتِمان
“Credit card”
And in Egyptian Arabic, we just say it how you say it in English.
كريديت كارد
krīdīt kārd
So, my credit card. Do you have a credit card?
رُخصَةُ قِيَادَة/رخصة سواقة
ruḫṣeh swāʾah
“Driver’s license”
So for example, you can say…
.أنا نسيت رخصة السواقة في البيت
ʾanā nsīt ruḫṣeh el-sewāʾah fī el-bīt.
which means “I forgot my driver’s license at home.”
نُقود/فلوس
flūs
“cash”
So for example, you can say…
.في آخر الشهر, مش بيبقى معايا فلوس
fī ʾāḫer el-šahr, meš byebʾā maʿāyā flūs.
which means, “By the end of the month, I don’t have much money left.”
جنيه/جُنَيه
ǧenīh
“Egyptian pound”
For example, you can say…
معايا عشرة جنيه.
mʿāyā ʿašrah ǧnīh.
“I have 10 Egyptian pounds.”
محفظة/ مِحفَظَة
maḥfaẓah
“wallet” yeay, yeay, yeay!
For example, you can say...
.محفظتي لونها أحمر
maḥfaẓtī lūnhā ʾaḥmar.
“My wallet is red.”
My wallet. And your wallet?
