مرحبا انا نورا! |
(marhaban ana nora!) |
Hi I'm Nora! |
Welcome to ArabicPod101.com’s Abjadiyyah Made Easy! |
The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn the Arabic alphabet: the [أَبجَدِيَّة] (abjadiyyah). |
Congratulations! You arrived at the end of the series. |
In the past three lessons, you learned many letters, but do you remember all of them? In this lesson we’re reviewing these letters. |
In lesson 17, we learned و (waw) and ي (yāʾ) |
The و (waw) is just like the English "U" in the word "rule," while the ي (yāʾ) is the English "I" in the word "win." |
Let’s practice writing them together one more time: |
First we have و (waw): |
Initial and isolated: وَطَن (waṭan), "homeland" |
Medial and final: فَوْق (fawq), "on top of" |
Now let’s check ي (yāʾ): |
Isolated: ي |
Initial: يَسار (yasār), "left" |
Medial: كيس (kīs), "plastic bag" |
Final: صَبي (ṣabī), "boy" |
That’s it for lesson 17! Let’s see lesson 18’s letters! |
In lesson 18 we learned ى (alef layyena), and ا (alef). |
These two vowels sound just like the "A" in the word "apple." |
Let’s practice writing them together one more time: |
First we have ا (alef): |
Isolated and initial: ا |
Medial and final: هُناك (hunāk), "there" |
Now let’s review ى (alef layyena): |
Isolated: ى |
final: عَمى (ʿamā), "blindness" |
As you can see, it only comes in the isolated form and the final form. |
That’s it for lesson 18. Next, let’s see lesson 19. |
In lesson 19 we learned ء (hamza), |
ؤ (hamza on waw), |
ئ (hamza on alef layyena) |
These are all different versions of the glottal stop, or hamza. |
Let’s practice writing them together one more time: |
First we have ء (hamza) isolated:ء |
Medial: عَباءة (ʿabāʾah), "cape" |
final: حَمراء (ḥamrāʾ), "red" |
It looks the same in both cases. |
Now let’s check ؤ (hamza on waw): |
Isolated: ؤ |
Medial: مُؤامرَة (muʾāmrah), "conspiracy" |
This one only comes in the isolated form and the medial form. |
The last one is ئ (hamza on alef layyena): |
Here it is in its three forms: |
Isolated: ئ |
medial: ثائِر ( ṯāʾir), "demonstrator" |
final: مُبتَدِئ (mubtadiʾ), "beginner" |
This one comes in the isolated, medial or final forms. They look quite different though. |
And that’s it for lesson 20. We’re done! |
Let’s check the list of all the letters we covered so far! (animation) |
أ ا ب ت ث ج ح خ د ذ ر ز س ش ص ض ط ظ ع غ ف ق ك ل م ن ه ة و ي ى ء ؤ ئ |
We’ve come a long way since the first lesson! Great job guys! |
We’ve come a long way since the first lesson! Great job guys! |
Now that you’ve learned all of the Arabic alphabet, and learned all about the Arabic vowelling system, you’re ready to write any word you like! Let’s celebrate by writing a cool new word! |
أَحسَنت (ʾaḥsant), |
which means "Great job!" |
Now you’ll be able to read and write any Arabic word! |
What are you going to write? |
Salam! |
