Hi everyone, I am Peryhan and this is Top 10 Must-Know vocabulary for the Restaurant. Let’s get started.
1.
ويتر
(wītar) "waiter"
The first word is (wītar) "waiter" and in Egypt, sometimes we call it
جرسون
(garsūn) or
صبي
(ṣabī).
صبي
(ṣabī) means “the boy.”
For example, you can say,
هقول للويتر يجيب مناديل.
(haʾūl lelwītar yegīb manādīl.)
"I'll ask the waiter to get some napkins."

سلطة
(salaṭah) "salad"
عايز سلطة؟
(ʿāyez salaṭah?)
And usually, like, you know, when everything is chaotic like when everything is so confusing and you don’t know what’s going on, you say, like,
إيه السلطة دي؟
(ʾeīh el-salaṭah dī?) "What kind of salad is that?"
Like, everything is so messed up and you don’t know what’s going on. Just like a salad.
3.
منيو
(menyū) "menu"
For example, you can say,
ممكن المنيو؟
(momken el-menyū?)
"Can I have the menu?"
4.
يطلب
(yoṭlob) "to order"
هنطلب دلوقتي.
(hanoṭlob delwaʾtī.)
"We'll order now."
5. The next one is,
مية
(mayyah) "water"
For example,
ممكن مية لو سمحت؟
(momken mayyah law samaḥt?)
"May I have some water, please?"
6.
الحلو
(el-ḥelw) "dessert"
For example,
منيو الحلو، لو سمحت.
(menyū el-ḥelw, law samaḥt?)
"The dessert menu, please."
7.
شيف
(šīf) “chef”
(šīf) which means “chef”
شيف
For example,
الشيف بتاع الفندق ده ممتاز.
(el-šīf betāʿ el-fondoʾ dah momtāz.)
"This hotel's chef is excellent."
8.
وجبات سريعة
(wagabāt sarīʿah) "fast food"
For example,
مش بحب الوجبات السريعة.
(meš baḥebb el-wagabāt el-sarīʿah.)
"I don't like fast food."
9.
مطعم
(maṭʿam) "restaurant"
For example,
جربت المطعم ده قبل كدة؟
(garrabt el-maṭʿam dah ʾabl kedah?)
"Did you try this restaurant before?"
10.
فاتورة
(fatūrah) "bill"
For example, you can say,
عايز الفاتورة لو سمحت.
(ʿāyez el-fātūrah law samaḥt.)
"I want the bill, please."
Sometimes in Egypt, you can see or do this gesture to refer to the bill as well that you wanted.
