Okay. Hi, everyone! My name is Peryhan. Welcome to ArabicPod101.com and today, we’re going to learn the top 25 Arabic verbs. Let’s get started.

(yekūn)
"to be"
The first verb we have today is…
يكون
(yekūn)
verb "to be"
To be or not to be, that’s the question.
في ديسمبر الجو بيكون برد.
(fī dīsamber el-gaww beykūn bard.)
"In December, the weather is cold."
It’s very easy.
2.
يحب
(yeḥeb)
"to like"
So for example, you can say...
أنا بحب الفراولة.
(ʾanā baḥeb el-farāwlah.)
"I like strawberries."
I do because Pery, strawberry, you know. We have a connection.
3.
يعمل
(yeʿmel)
"to do"
For example you can say...
على طول بعمل الواجب في المعاد.
(ʿalā ṭūl baʿmel el-wāgeb fī el-maʿād.)
"I always do my homework on time."
That’s a lie.

يقول
(yeʾūl)
"to say"
For example you can say...
أحمد دايماً بيقول الحق.
(ʾaḥmad dāyman beīʾūl el-ḥaʾ.)
"Ahmad always says the truth."

يشرح
(yešraḥ)
"to explain"
For example, you can say...
إديني فرصة أشرح موقفي.
(ʾedīnī furṣah ʾašraḥ mawʾefī.)
"Give me a chance to explain my situation."

(yesmaʿ)
"to hear or to listen"
يسمع
(yesmaʿ)
"to listen or to hear"
بحب أسمع الأغاني القديمة.
(baḥeb ʾasmaʿ el-ʾaġānī el-ʾadīmah.)
It means "I like listening to old music" from the 20th century, 20s, 30s.

"to go"
بابا بيروح الشغل كل يوم.
(bābā beīrūḥ el-šuġl kul yūm.)
"My dad goes to work every day."
You can say…
أنا بروح الشغل كل يوم.
(ana barūḥ el-šuġl kul yūm.)
“I go to work every day.”
Go to work, go to school, work, work, work, work, work.

يعرف
(yeʿraf)
"to know"
عنده سنتين بس، لكن بيعرف ياكل لوحده.
(ʿandoh sanateīn bass, laken beyeʿraf yākol lewaḥdoh.)
"He's two years old, yet he can eat by himself."

ياخد
(yaḫod)
"to take"
You probably hear this a lot like…
خد الزبالة معاك وأنت ماشي.
(ḫud el-zebālah maʿāk wʾenta māšī.)
or…
خد الزبالة معاك وأنت خارج.
(ḫud el-zebālah maʿāk wʾenta ḫareg.)
“Don’t forget to take the trash out.”
You have to take it out like this… (zebālah), the trash.

(yešūf)
"to see"
For example, you can say...
بشوف أحسن لما بلبس النضارة.
(bašūf ʾaḥsan lammā balbes el-naḍḍārah.)
"I see much better when I put my glasses on."
Yeah, I really cannot see. I do see you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You’re not well seen either. If someone says hi, I’m like, ahh, ahh, who is this?

(yīgī)
"to come"
For example, you can say...
النهارده, صاحبتي هتيجي تزورني.
(ālnahārdah, ṣāḥbetī hatīǧī tzūrnī.)
"Today, my friend is coming to visit me."

يفكر
(yefakkar)
"to think"
For example, you can say...
من الصبح بفكر في حل للمشكلة دي.
(men el-ṣobḥ bafakkar fī ḥall lelmoškelah dī.)
"Since the morning, I've been thinking of a solution to this problem."

يبص
(yeboṣṣ)
"to look"
For example, you can say...
بص، القطر وصل
(boṣṣ, el-ʾaṭr waṣal.)
"Look, the train has arrived."
The train has arrived. The boys have arrived to the rabbit… South Park!

يعوز
(yeʿūz)
"to want"
عايز أنام.
(ʿāyez ʾanām.)
"I want to sleep."
I’m so sleepy.

يدّي
(yeddī)
"to give"
For example,
إديني قلم لو سمحت.
(ʾeddīnī ʾalam law samaḥt.)
"Please give me a pen."
16.
يستخدم
(yestaḫdem)
"to use"
أنا دايماً بستخدم سان بلوك قبل ماخرج.
(ʾnā dāyman bastaḫdem sān blūk ʾabl māḫruǧ.)
"I always use sunblock before I go out" because it’s too hot. It’s too sunny.

يلاقي
(yelāʾī)
"to find"
مش لاقية محفظتي في مكانها.
(meš lāʾyah maḥfaẓtī fī makānhā.)
"I cannot find my wallet in its place."
18.
يخرج
(yoḫrog)
"to go out"
بحب أخرج أتمشى في الجنينة.
(baḥeb ʾaḫruǧ ʾatmaššā fī el-ǧnīnah.)
which means "I like to go out for a walk in the park."
19.
يسأل
(yesʾal)
"to ask"
و هو صغير كان بيسأل أسئلة كتير.
(we howwa ṣoġayyar kān beyesʾal ʾasʾelah ketīr.)
"When he was young, he used to ask a lot of questions."
20.
يشتغل
(yeštaġal)
"to work"
For example, you can say...
الكمبيوتر بتاعي مش شغال.
(elkombyūtar btāʿī meš šaġġāl.)
"My computer doesn’t work."
Work, work, work, work, work.
21.
يدخل
(yedḫol)
"to enter"
خبط على الباب قبل ما تدخل.
(ḫabbaṭ ʿalā el-bāb ʾabl mā tedḫol.)
"Please, knock before you enter."
22.
يحاول
(yeḥāwel)
"to try"
حاول تاني.
(ḥāwel tānī.)
"Try again."
And again, and again, and again, and again, and again.
23.
يتصل
(yetteṣel)
"to call"
For example, you can say...
ممكن تتصل بي بكرة؟
(mumken tetteṣel beyya bukrah?)
"Can you please give me a call tomorrow?"
24.
يجري
(yegrī)
"to run"
النمر بيجري بسرعة جداً.
(elnemr byeǧrī bsurʿah ǧeddan.)
"Tigers run very fast."
Rrrr….well, I’m wearing almost yellow like rrr...
25.
ينام
(yenām)
"to sleep”
أنا إمبارح نمت متأخر أوي.
(ʾanā ʾembāreḥ nemt metʾaḫḫar ʾawī.)
"Yesterday, I slept very late", sadly.
