How Do You Motivate Yourself When Learning Arabic?

ʾušāhidu ʾaflāman wa barāmiǧa tilfizyuūniyyah wa ʾastamtiʿu bilššuʿūr ʿindamā ʾastaṭiīʿu ʾan ʾafhama kalimah ʾaū ǧumlah.

I watch movies and TV shows and enjoy the feeling when I can understand a word or a sentence.

ʾataḫayyalu ʾannī yaūman maā saūfa ʾazuūru ʾaū ʾaʿīš fiī tilka al-balad.

أتخيل أني يوماً ما سوف أزور أو أعيش في تلك البلد.

I imagine that one day I will visit or live in that country!

ʾan takūna fiī makānin ḥaīṯu yatakallamu al-nnāsu al-luġah huwa muḥaffizun kabīr.

أن تكون في مكان حيث يتكلم الناس اللغة هو محفز كبير.

Being in places where people speak the language is great motivation.

ʾaṣnaʿu ṣadāqātin maʿa al-nnāsi alaḏīna yatakallamūna al-luġah.

أصنع صداقات مع الناس الذين يتكلمون اللغة.

I make friends with people who speak that language.

taḫayyal ʾannaka tastaṭiīʿu ʾan tukallima ʾayya ʾaḥadin fiī al-ʿaalami. tastaṭiīʿu ʾan taḥẓā bilḥuriyyaẗi fiī al-ḏḏahābi ʾilā ʾayyi makān, ʾan tafʿala ʾayya šaīʾ, ʾan tuqābila ʾayya ʾaḥad! ʾinnahu šaīʾun rāʾiʿ.

تخيل أنك تستطيع أن تكلم أي أحد في العالم. تستطيع أن تحظى بالحرية في الذهاب إلى أي مكان, أن تفعل أي شي, أن تقابل أي أحد! أنه شيئ رائع.

Imagine that you could speak to everyone in the world. You would have freedom to go anywhere, do anything, meet anyone! It's a great motivator.

ʾuḥibbu ʾan ʾaǧida al-kalimāta al-muḍḥikah fiī al-luġaẗi alatī ʾataʿallam.

أحب أن أجد الكلمات المضحكة في اللغة التي أتعلم.

I like to find funny words in the language I am learning!

al-ʾistimāʿu ʾilā ʾaġāniī šaǧǧaʿanī ʿalā ʾan ʾaʿmala ʿalā fahmihim.

الإستماع إلى أغاني شجعني على أن أعمل على فهمهم.

Listening to songs in the language encourages me to work to understand them!

ʾuḥāwilu ʾan ʾaqraʾa kutub. wa ǧarāʾid wa mawaāqiʿa ʾilkitrūniyah bitilka al-luġah. ʾinahā taǧʿaluhā tabduū ḥaqīqiyah ʾakṯar.

أحاول أن أقرء كتب و جرائد و مواقع إلكترونية بتلك اللغة. إنها تجعلها تبدو حقيقية أكثر.

I try to read books, newspapers and websites in that language. It makes it seem more real!

ʾadrusu al-ǧǧaūāniba al-ʾuḫrā mina al-ṯṯaqāfaẗi ʾaīḍaan, mimmā yaǧʿalu taʿalluma al-luġaẗi muǧzīan.

أدرس الجوانب الأخرى من الثقافة أيضاً, مما يجعل تعلم اللغة مجزياً.

I study other aspects of the culture too, which makes it more rewarding to study the language.

ʾuġayyuru al-ṭṭarīqaẗa alatī ʾadrusa bihā bilʿādaẗi likaī laā tuṣbiḥa mumillah.

al-ttaḥadduṯu ʾilā al-nnāṭiqīna billuġah huwa tadriībun mufīdun ǧiddan wa muḥaffiz.

ʾiǧʿal al-ttaʿalluma mumtiʿ! ʾiḏā kunta tašʿuru bilmalali fiīmā tafʿal, faǧid ṭarīqah ʾuḫrā litafʿaluh.

إجعل التعلم ممتع! إذا كنت تشعر بالملل فيما تفعل, فجد طريقة أخرى لتفعله.

ʾanā daāʾiman ʾaḍaʿu al-luġah kahadafin muʿayyan lilmustaqbal. al-ʾahdāfu mumkinatu al-ttaḥqīq hiya muḥafz kbīr.

أنا دائما أضع اللغة كهدف معين للمستقبل. الأهداف ممكنت التحقيق هي محفز كبير.
