| It's identical to the B in 'buy' or 'book'. |

| There are 4 pairs of consonants that each have an 'ordinary' pronunciation, like the previous D sound that we just heard, and a corresponding 'dark' version. This is the dark counterpart to the previous consonant. Observe the difference between the D sound in the English word "daunting" which is very close to this dark sound, as opposed to the d in the word "dad". To produce the dark variety, build up pressure at the point of contact, and at the same time, retract the root of your tongue a little to constrict your throat muscles and then release the air emphatically. | This is the dark counterpart to the previous consonant. Build up the pressure at the point of contact and then release the air forcefully. Remember to retract the root of your tongue to constrict your throat a little. This should create a narrow channel from the base of your throat, all the way to the front of your mouth.
