INTRODUCTION
Becky: Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Social Media Phrases Season 1, Lesson 7 - Getting Bored.
Becky: Hi everyone, I'm Becky.
Amr: And I'm Amr.
Becky: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Egyptian Arabic about being bored. Amir gets bored at home, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Amr: قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
Becky: Meaning - "Sitting here all bored. Is anyone doing anything today?" Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

POST
Becky: Listen again to Amir's post.
Amr: قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
Becky: "Sitting here all bored. Is anyone doing anything today?"
Amr: (SLOW) قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?) (Regular) قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
Becky: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "sitting here all bored."
Amr: قاعد زهقان. (ʾāʿed zahʾān.)
Becky: The expression "sitting" in Egyptian means "doing something for a long interval of time." So, Amir is not necessarily sitting. Listen again - "Sitting here all bored" is...
Amr: (SLOW) قاعد زهقان. (ʾāʿed zahʾān.) (REGULAR) قاعد زهقان. (ʾāʿed zahʾān.)
Becky: Then comes the phrase - "Is anyone doing anything today?"
Amr: حد عايز يخرج؟ (ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
Becky: In Egyptian, you can just use an affirmative sentence but use the intonation of a question to create a question. It's super easy! Listen again - "Is anyone doing anything today?" is...
Amr: (SLOW) حد عايز يخرج؟ (ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?) (REGULAR) حد عايز يخرج؟ (ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
Becky: All together, "Sitting here all bored. Is anyone doing anything today?"
Amr: قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
