Becky: Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Social Media Phrases Season 1, Lesson 19 - Just Relaxing.
Becky: Hi everyone, I'm Becky.
Amr: And I'm Amr.
Becky: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Egyptian Arabic about relaxing. Amir relaxes at a beautiful place, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Amr: قاعد على الشط في الغردقة. (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ fī el-ġardaʾah.)
Becky: Meaning - "Chilling on the beach in Hurghada." Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

POST
Becky: Listen again to Amir's post.
Amr: قاعد على الشط في الغردقة. (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ fī el-ġardaʾah.)
Becky: "Chilling on the beach in Hurghada."
Amr: (SLOW) قاعد على الشط في الغردقة. (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ fī el-ġardaʾah.) (Regular) قاعد على الشط في الغردقة. (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ fī el-ġardaʾah.)
Becky: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "chilling on the beach."
Amr: قاعد على الشط (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ)
Becky: This expression uses the verb "sitting," but in Egyptian it doesn't necessarily mean being in a sitting position. It just means that you're there doing all sorts of activities. Listen again - "Chilling on the beach" is...
Amr: (SLOW) قاعد على الشط (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ) (REGULAR) قاعد على الشط (ʾāʿed ʿalā el-šaṭ)
Becky: Then comes the phrase - "In Hurghada."
Amr: في الغردقة. (fī el-ġardaʾah.)
Becky: This expression is used to indicate location.
Amr: In this case, Hurghada.
Becky: This is the location of one of the most popular beaches in Egypt. It’s considered one of the best snorkelling and diving spots in the Red Sea. Listen again - "In Hurghada" is...
Amr: (SLOW) في الغردقة. (fī el-ġardaʾah.) (REGULAR) في الغردقة. (fī el-ġardaʾah.)
