INTRODUCTION
Becky: Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Social Media Phrases Season 1, Lesson 10 - Feeling Disappointed.
Becky: Hi everyone, I'm Becky.
Amr: And I'm Amr.
Becky: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Egyptian Arabic about being disappointed. Mona feels disappointed about today's weather, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Amr: لازم تمطر يوم الأجازة يعني! (lāzem temaṭṭar yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!)
Becky: Meaning - "Does it have to rain on a weekend?" Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

POST
Becky: Listen again to Mona's post.
Amr: لازم تمطر يوم الأجازة يعني! (lāzem temaṭṭar yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!)
Becky: "Does it have to rain on a weekend?"
Amr: (SLOW) لازم تمطر يوم الأجازة يعني! (lāzem temaṭṭar yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!) (Regular) لازم تمطر يوم الأجازة يعني! (lāzem temaṭṭar yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!)
Becky: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "Does it have to rain?"
Amr: لازم تمطر (lāzem temaṭṭar)
Becky: This expression is in the affirmative form, but the intonation is that of a question. Listen again - "Does it have to rain" is...

Becky: Then comes the phrase - "On a weekend."
Amr: يوم الأجازة يعني! (yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!)
Becky: Egyptian Arabic doesn't have a specific word for ?weekend,? so we usually use the word "holiday" instead. Also keep in mind that the weekend in Egypt is Friday through Saturday, not Saturday to Sunday! Listen again - "On a weekend" is...
Amr: (SLOW) يوم الأجازة يعني! (yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!) (REGULAR) يوم الأجازة يعني! (yūm el-ʾaǧāzah yaʿnī!)
