Alisha: This is Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 5. In this lesson you'll learn expressions that contain food names.
Alisha: These expressions have food names in them, but their meanings have nothing to do with food.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Sherif: ياكل عيش (yākul ʿīš)
Sherif: قشطة (ʾešṭah)
Sherif: بلح (balaḥ)
Sherif: عنب (ʿenab)
Alisha: Sherif, what's our first expression?
Sherif: ياكل عيش (yākul ʿīš)
Alisha: literally meaning "to eat bread." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to work."
Sherif: [SLOW] ياكل عيش [NORMAL] ياكل عيش
Alisha: Listeners, please repeat.

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to say that it's all about work.
