Alisha: Expressions with Turkish Origins
Alisha: Hi everyone, and welcome back to ArabicPod101.com. I'm Alisha.

Alisha: This is Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 4. In this lesson you'll learn expressions with Turkish origins.
Alisha: These words are used commonly in Egyptian Arabic, but they have Turkish origins. Most Egyptians don't even know that, so use them to surprise your Egyptian friends!
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Sherif: طز (ṭuz)
Sherif: يلا (yallā)
Sherif: تمام (tamām)
Sherif: في المشمش (fī el-mešmeš)
Alisha: Sherif, what's our first expression?
Sherif: طز (ṭuz)
Alisha: literally meaning "I don't care." And when it's used as a slang expression, it also means "I don't care."
Sherif: [SLOW] طز [NORMAL] طز
Alisha: Listeners, please repeat.
Sherif: طز

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to show someone that you don't care about a certain matter. Be careful when you use this word because it can only be used between very close people. Otherwise, it could potentially be very offensive.

Alisha: "I don't care about you."
Sherif: [NORMAL] .طز فيك

Sherif: يلا (yallā)
Alisha: literally meaning "let's." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "let's go."

Sherif: [NORMAL].يلا بينا نروح نتمشى

Sherif: تمام (tamām)
Alisha: literally meaning "wholeness." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "perfect."
Sherif: [SLOW] تمام [NORMAL] تمام

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to express that someone or something is in perfect condition. It can also be used as a synonym of "OK" in the middle of a conversation.

Sherif: في المشمش (fī el-mešmeš)
Alisha: literally meaning "in the apricot." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "no way."
