Alisha: Long Idioms with Short Meanings
Alisha: Hi everyone, and welcome back to ArabicPod101.com. I'm Alisha.

Alisha: This is Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 3. In this lesson you'll learn long idioms with short meanings.
Alisha: These idioms may look long and challenging, but they have very simple meanings.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Sherif: يروح في سابع نومة (yerūḥ fī sābeʿ nūmah)
Sherif: ياكل رز مع الملايكة (beyākul ruzz maʿa el-malāykah)
Sherif: يتحط على الجرح يطيب (yetḥaṭṭ ʿalā el-garḥ yeṭīb)
Sherif: إخبط راسك في الحيط. (ʾeḫbaṭ rāsak fī el-ḥīṭ.)
Alisha: Sherif, what's our first expression?
Sherif: يروح في سابع نومة (yerūḥ fī sābeʿ nūmah)
Alisha: literally meaning "to go into the seventh sleep." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to fall into deep sleep."

Alisha: literally meaning "to eat rice with the angels." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to be asleep."

Alisha: Use this slang expression when someone is trying his best to make you change your mind or change a situation; in other words, you are telling them nothing is going to change. Be careful when you use this word, it is a bit disrespectful.
