Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to use when talking with friends. After watching this video, you’ll be able to have a casual conversation with a friend, and to say something is “super.”
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
بص العربية دي!
(boṣṣ el-ʿarabeyyah dī!)
واو، دي جامدة جدا!
(wāw, dī gāmdah geddan!)
Once more with the English translation.
بص العربية دي!
(boṣṣ el-ʿarabeyyah dī!)
“Hey, look at that car!”
واو، دي جامدة جدا!
(wāw, dī gāmdah geddan!)
“Wow, that's super cool!”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “Hey, look at that car!”
That's:
بص العربية دي!
(boṣṣ el-ʿarabeyyah dī!)
Listen to it again:
بص العربية دي!, بص العربية دي!
(boṣṣ el-ʿarabeyyah dī!, boṣṣ el-ʿarabeyyah dī!)
This Arabic sentence literally translates as "Look car this!” But it means “Hey, look at that car!”
Now, how do you respond to this?
First of all, you’ll need to learn how to say “wow” . That’s
واو, واو
(wāw, wāw)
Then, you’ll need to learn how to say “That’s super [adjective].”
The pattern is:
ده/دي [adjective] جدا.
(dah/dī [adjective] geddan.)
This Arabic sentence literally translates as "This [adjective] very.” But it means “That's super [adjective].”
For example:
“Wow, that's super cool!”
واو، دي جامدة جدا!, واو، دي جامدة جدا!
(wāw, dī gāmdah geddan!, wāw, dī gāmdah geddan!)
