Hi, everyone! My name is Peryhan and this is ArabicPod101. Today, we’re going to do 10 phrases you’ll never want to hear. Let’s get started! I’m going to be, like, subtly, like, low-key aggressive in this video.
1.
وزنك زاد في الفترة الأخيرة؟
(waznak zād fī el-fatrah el-ʾaḫīrah?)
"Have you gained weight recently?"
or
إنت تخنت؟
(ʾenta tḫent?)
“Did you get fat?”
The first phrase is and excuse me
وزنك زاد في الفترة الأخيرة؟
(waznak zād fī el-fatrah el-ʾaḫīrah?)
"Have you gained weight recently?"
Usually, it’s like with a question mark like
وزنك زاد في الفترة الأخيرة؟
(waznak zād fī el-fatrah el-ʾaḫīrah?)
إنت تخنت؟
(ʾenta tḫent?)
“Did you get fat?”
something like that. Not really nice.
2.
عندك شعرة بيضة.
(ʿandak šaʿrah beeḍa.)
"You have a gray hair."
That’s not nice either, yeah. If someone says you have a gray hair, I’m like, ohh...

قلتلك كدة!
(ʾoltelak kedah!)
"I told you so!"
Or
مش قلتلك كده؟
(meš ʾoltelak kedah?)
“Didn’t I tell you so!”
قلتلك كدة!
(ʾoltelak kedah!)
"I told you so!"
You can also say
مش قلتلك كده؟
(meš ʾoltelak kedah?)
“Didn’t I tell you so!”
You kind of scold the person
قلتلك كدة!
(ʾoltelak kedah!).

انت مرفود!
(ʾenta marfūd! )
"You're fired!"
This one, I’m aching to practice. One day when I become like, I don’t know, like a boss and say like
انت مرفود!
(ʾenta marfūd!)
Don’t choose this one, you’ll breaking hearts with this one.
You’re fired and get out! Yeah, but why are you firing me? I’m so cute.
I’ll probably cry on the spot.

المشكلة مش فيك، المشكلة فيا أنا.
(el-moškelah meš fīk, el-moškelah feyyā ʾanā.)
"It is not you, it’s me."
This one is really sad. This one is heartbreaking like truly.

Usually, you’d hear it if you break up with your girlfriend or boyfriend, Egyptian girlfriend or Egyptian boyfriend.

Usually, it’s a lie!

"Thank you for your resume. However, the position is no longer available."

لازم نشوف ناس تانيين.
(lāzem nešūf nās tānyīn.)
"We should see other people."
Oh no! This is with the breakup again.

"We have to see other people."
It’s not you, it’s me.

مش معايا فلوس أرجعهالك انهاردة.
(meš maʿāyā flūs ʾaraggaʿhālak ennahārdah.)
"I don't have your money today."
Oh! I hate this one.

This one, usually, parents use a lot,

or maybe before a breakup, you also use it.
محتاجين نشوف ناس تانيين.
(meḥtāǧīn nešūf nās tānyīn.)
“We need to see other people.”

امشي من وشي.
(emšī men weššī.)
"get out of my face."
The last one is
امشي من وشي.
(emšī men weššī.)
"get out of my face."
Usually, you say it after you say
اطلع برة.
(eṭlaʿ barrah.)
as in "Get out."
Get out! Get out of my face.
