<itunes:summary>Learn Arabic with ArabicPod101.com! Your family has moved to the beautiful country of Egypt and have just started getting a daily routine down. Everyone seems to be doing their own thing. The only quality family time you have is around the breakfast table. You have all agreed to speak Arabic during this time to ease your way into the Egyptian society. Every morning, you say, "Good morning," in Arabic, and everyone replies in Arabic. You then speak about your plans for the day and what time you will return home to grab a bite to eat, finish some last-minute errands, and go to sleep, before starting the cycle all over again. But as you sit down at the table this morning, it seems you and your father are the only ones who have made it. You ask in Arabic, "Where's mom?" He answers in Arabic, "She is brushing her teeth and washing her face." You are starving and really wish everyone would hurry up. You ask your father in Arabic, "Where is my little brother this morning?" In an annoyed tone, he answers in Arabic, "He is still in his bed waking up." Nice. You stare at your father for just a moment, trying to convey how hungry you are in your stare. Finally, he tells you in Arabic, "Oh go ahead! Eat breakfast!" Looks like you have broken this daily routine! Learning Arabic with ArabicPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Arabic! This Arabic Video Vocabulary lesson will teach you important vocabulary regarding normal daily routines in Egypt. In this Arabic vocabulary video, you will learn Arabic by watching the video, seeing both English and Arabic translations describing the video, and all while listening to the Arabic translations being read aloud by our native Arabic speakers.

CLEOPATRA VII

The seventh Ptolemaic princess to carry that name, Cleopatra VII is an epic historical figure. She has been immortalized by William Shakespeare, Rembrandt, Rubens, and by countless stars including Elizabeth Taylor, Claudette Cobert, and Sophia Loren. Her seduction of the two most powerful men in the ancient world at her time has her remembered for her provocative allure. That she did it to protect her country from being swallowed by a superpower demonstrates her political savvy.

Daughter of the Ptolemaic pharaoh Ptolemy XII Auletes, Cleopatra was the only member of her family to speak Egyptian. The Greek Dynasty that ruled Egypt kept Greek as their official language and no one, until Cleopatra, had bothered to learn the language of the people they ruled over. She became queen at 18 when her father died and ruled with her 10 year old brother as her co-regent. In 48 BC, the execution of Pompey the Great by Cleopatra's estranged brother provoked the Romans, and Caesar stormed into Egypt and captured Alexandria. Rome now turned her attention to Egypt, breadbasket of the ancient world, and Cleopatra quelled the Roman advance by seducing Julius Caesar. She became his mistress and bore him a son, Ptolemy Caesar, also known as Caesarion. She even visited Rome and caused a scandal with her open affair with the already-married Caesar.

After the assassination of Caesar in 44 BC, Cleopatra became lovers with Mark Antony in 41 BC and married him the next year. Political discord and power struggles from Rome spilled into Egypt and Mark Antony and Cleopatra found themselves battling with the two triumvirs who ruled Rome as a trio (Mark Antony being the third triumvir). They lost at the Battle of Actium in 30 BC and both committed suicide separately. Egypt was then absorbed into the Roman Empire, becoming the province of Aegyptus.

Pharaoh Khufu is known as being a very mean, cruel ruler toward both his kingdom and his large family. Stories found on documents such as the Westcar Papyrus reflect Khufu in this negative light and attribute his cruelty to frustration at trying to prolong the reign of himself and his sons.

Khufu's parents were Pharaoh Sneferu and Queen Hetepheres I. He is believed to have had four wives, nine sons, and fifteen daughters. His son Djedefra succeeded his throne. One of his daughters became Queen Hetepheres II.

Khufu was also known as Cheops or Suphis. His complete name was actually Khnum-Khufu, which means "the god Khnum protects me."

The length of Khufu\'s reign is greatly debated by different sources. Some sources claim that he ruled for 23 years, while other sources claim 50 or even 63 years. We do know that Khufu was part of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. He was the 2nd pharaoh of the 4th dynasty, and he reigned from roughly 2589 to 2566 BC.

Khufu is most well-known for building the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and, surprisingly, the most well preserved. For a period of 3,800 years, it was the highest man-made edifice in the world. The Great Pyramid is part of the Giza Necropolis. It is the oldest and largest of three pyramids located in the Giza Necropolis.
