Casablanca
Casablanca, 'ad-daar 'al-bayDaa' in Arabic, is located in western Morocco on the Atlantic coast and it is the biggest city of Morocco with a population exceeding 3 million people. Thanks to its strategic location, the port of Casablanca is considered the main port of Morocco and it is the largest port in North Africa and the largest artificial ports in the world.
The name "casa branca" is originally Portuguese and it means "the white house." The Portuguese influence started when Portugal conquered the city in the 15th century to put an end to the pirates that used the port as a base to attack Portuguese ships.

Spain and Portugal eventually abandoned the town after a great earthquake destroyed it along with the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, in 1755. The city was then rebuilt again under the Moroccan ruler Mohamed III who kept its name in Arabic as "the white house."

A walk around Casablanca will demonstrate that which distinguishes it the most: its contrast between the exotic Old Town and the Art Deco design of the New Town with its elegant, lavish and ultra modern style.

In fact, Casablanca has an almost entirely Art Deco town called New Town and it is the largest collection of Art Deco architecture remaining in Morocco. The main streets of the New Town, its buildings and architecture were designed by the French architect Henri Prost, and was a model of a new town at that time.

In the midst of its hassle and noise, Casablanca has conserved its incredible charm, the combination of oriental Mauresque style and Art De</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Learn Arabic with ArabicPod101.com! You are sitting in your class at the university today, and your professor promises a special challenge. You must admit, you are a little nervous. In the past, 'special challenge' has meant anything from pop-quizzes to his grandmother's secret recipe...blech, now THAT was a challenge! As your professor approaches the podium, he starts up the projector and begins showing slides of what appears to be animals from Australia. You are thoroughly confused now. He explains in Arabic, "Your test results on the last exam were so bad that I decided I would give you an easy bonus grade. For each of these animals that you can name in Arabic, I will give you five points on your exam...and believe me, you ALL need it!" With that, the class erupts into applause...but not you. You learned the names for common pets and even the Arabic names of common zoo animals. But you NEVER thought about learning how to say 'platypus' or 'kangaroo' in Arabic. Well, you'll know when you retake his class next semester... Learning Arabic with ArabicPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Arabic! This Arabic Video Vocabulary lesson will teach you how to talk about Australian animals in Arabic. In this Arabic vocabulary video, you will learn Arabic by watching the video, seeing both English and Arabic translations describing the video, and all while listening to the Arabic translations being read aloud by our native Arabic speakers. Visit us at ArabicPod101.com where you will find many more great Arabic lessons and learning materials! Leave us a message while you are there!

<itunes:summary>Learn Arabic with ArabicPod101.com! There absolutely could not be a more beautiful day than today. The weather is perfect, the sun is shining, and you are in Egypt! Even the birds seem to notice what a great day you are having! As you casually stroll along a park in Cairo on your way to meet a friend, the beauty of the day overwhelms you. As you reach the café in your dreamy state, your friend looks at you questioningly as you approach and asks in Arabic, "Are you okay?" Bursting with the excitement of the day, you begin to tell her in Arabic all about how beautiful the day has been. However, when you get to the part about the birds singing, you stop abruptly at a complete loss for the appropriate Arabic words. Again, noticing the sudden disappointment on your face, your friend asks in Arabic, "You still okay?" Deeply saddened by your inability to express the beauty of the swans in the pond or the beautiful peacock with its colorful display that you experienced today, you drop your head and answer in Arabic, "Well, there were these birds, and they were pretty." Your friend looks at you as if you have lost your mind, replying in Arabic, "Oh, that's nice." Another lost opportunity... Learning Arabic with ArabicPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Arabic! This Arabic Video lesson will teach you the Arabic vocabulary you need to talk about some beautiful birds and their actions in Arabic. Don't miss the opportunity to share your beautiful day with your friends in Arabic! In this Arabic vocabulary video, you will learn by watching the video, seeing both English and Arabic translations describing the video, and all while listening to the Arabic translations being read aloud by our native Arabic speakers. <itunes:summary>Learn Arabic with ArabicPod101.com! You are finally in Morocco, and while others might be happy with "normal" sightseeing tours, you want to experience EVERYTHING Morocco has to offer! On today's agenda - the zoo in Morocco! You can't wait to see how different the zoo might be from the one back home you have seen since you were two. As you walk through the zoo, you overhear people chatting about the animals in Arabic. A lady looking at the monkeys says excitedly in Arabic, "Look honey! The monkeys are eating ants with a stick!" You rush over to the monkeys; you have only seen them use tools on TV! How exciting! Moments later, you hear a man telling his son in Arabic, "Look at what that baby elephant is doing!" Excited to see something new again (and feeling a little like a kid again), you rush to the elephants where you see the baby throwing dirt all around him. How cute is that? Throughout the day, you witness amazing things from wild animals that you have never seen before! And none of this would be possible if you hadn't learned Arabic. This was definitely a great idea! Good thing you came prepared! Learning Arabic with ArabicPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Arabic! This Arabic Video Vocabulary lesson will teach you the Arabic vocabulary to talk about safari animals. Whether it's to enrich your vacation or to tell the police where the black rhinoceros hit your car, this video lesson is sure to help you tame the wild beast...well, at least the vocabulary for it! In this Arabic vocabulary video, you will learn Arabic by watching the video, seeing both English and Arabic translations describing the video, and all while listening to the Arabic translations being read aloud by our native Arabic speakers. Thinking she has been hurt or something is wrong, you run over to the patch of flowers and stare blankly into the beautiful blooms. Meanwhile, your niece has move on to bigger things - at the gate to the yard, she yells back in Arabic, "OOOOHHH! An inchworm is on your fence!!" Trying desperately to keep up with her, she dashes off to your garden, yelling back in Arabic, "The ladybugs are everywhere!" Realizing at this point that she is not hurt (just excited), you ask in your best Arabic you can muster, "What are you so excited about honey? Please show me." <itunes:summary>Learn Arabic with ArabicPod101.com! After the amazing day you spent in the park with your friends, you learned so many great Arabic words for common animals that you decided to take your Arabic to the next level. In an attempt to impress your friends this time though, you have been studying Arabic vocabulary for farm animals. What your friends don't know is definitely going to surprise them! As you arrive at the most magnificent farm that you have ever set eyes on, you see the cutest little piglets! Mustering all of your nerve, you matter-of-factly announce to your friends in Arabic, "Look at those adorable piglets!" Everyone stops dead in their tracks and stares at you. As you move across the open pastureland, you see some goats and announce again in Arabic to the suddenly silent group of friends around you, "Awww, look at those goats playing!" Finally, someone breaks the uncomfortable silence and asks in Arabic, "Where did you learn to talk about farm animals in Arabic? We were all prepared to teach you some new farm vocabulary today!" You reply proudly in Arabic, "Looks like I beat you to the punch this time...or ArabicPod101.com did anyway!" Learning Arabic with ArabicPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Arabic! This Arabic Video Vocabulary lesson will teach you the Arabic vocabulary you need to talk about those adorable (and not-so-adorable) animals you see on the farm! In this Arabic vocabulary video, you will learn by watching the video, seeing both English and Arabic translations describing the video, and all while listening to the Arabic translations being read aloud by our native Arabic speakers.
