Learn Arabic with ArabicPod101.com! You’ve been in Egypt for a few days, and you’ve heard that buying from street vendors is the best way to get delicious fruits and vegetables at cheap prices. You’re a little nervous at the prospect, but one morning after skipping breakfast, you venture out and approach a vendor on the street who seems to have a nice supply of fresh fruit. “How much are the bananas and apples?” you ask in Arabic. “One kilo of bananas costs three pounds, and one kilo of apples costs twelve pounds,” the vendor replies. “Wow!” you exclaim. “Why are the apples so much more expensive?” The vendor says, “These apples are very fresh, but they’re also imported.” By now you’re stomach is growling, so you answer, “Fine. I’ll take one kilo each of bananas and apples.” As you walk down the street, you bite into an apple. You heard right-the food from street vendors is fresh and delicious!
