Whether at a friend’s house, a bus station or a local restaurant, you will need at some point to ask where the bathroom is. Be prepared for an answer because you may come across a squat toilet! Any experience with that? Share it with us, we want to know!
Oh, wow, squat toilets…what memories I have of them! There was one in my husband’s family’s house when I visited Algeria. I was shocked and appalled at first, but I got used to it. What I never got used to was the smell of the cleaning product they used to clean the tiny stall it was in…I forget what it’s called, but it has a kind of a rotten egg smell that I can’t stand. If the finest bathroom in the world were cleaned with that stuff, I wouldn’t go in there. But squat toilets are doable, you just have to acquire the right skills
